WCA Instructor Marcel Morton will be conducting 2 seminars in Toronto in May 2024

Building practical bunkai for kata using 4 principles

  1. Realising that not all movements in kata are as they look (focusing on the "hidden" throwing techniques in kata)
  2. understanding that techniques used in kata are not the only options for self defence but give a suggestion upon which can be built further. using Bassai dai and the series of bloks that the kata starts with as an example of grappling techniques.
  3. try to think what the "lesson-plan" could have been behind the kata, why do all the heian start left to right? What did the masters want us to learn?
  4. Focusing on the directions in kata, how to interpret them and how to understand why some movements are as they are in kata.

An online video promoting the event will be coming soon!!

Testimonials
I have just recently joined the WCA as an Associate Instructor and, so far, the experience has been very pleasing. The response to my enquiries was prompt and professional, and the admission process very smooth. I am pleased to be associated with the WCA and I look forward to many years of knowledge exchange and learning. As my school grows, I will enrol the school into the WCA - my students are quite excited by the prospect. Thank you for your positive and constructive contribution to the field of martial arts.
